Heating calculator
Compare two workshop heaters using your own fuel price and electricity tariff. Select a heater in each card to see its picture, fuel consumption and estimated running cost. Choose diesel, kerosene or Superheat 35 / industrial heating oil—fuel density is handled automatically.
Area guidance only: insulation, roof height, open doors and outside temperature affect how much space a heater can warm. Infrared spot-heating areas are not the same as whole-room heating areas. Higher roofs and poorer insulation generally reduce the floor area covered.
Compare your running costs
Enter the price you actually pay. The starting values of £1.20/litre and £0.25/kWh are examples, not current market prices.
How it works: hourly cost = fuel use in litres/hour × your price per litre + electrical input in kW × your electricity tariff. The calculator uses an average density for your selected fuel automatically. Estimates assume continuous running; actual fuel properties and consumption can vary.
Wilms VAL 6: the lower 29 kW fuel rate is a proportional estimate, not manufacturer-confirmed. Both settings include the maximum 260 W electrical allowance. Approximate diesel consumption: 2.91 / 4.01 L/hr at 29 / 40 kW.
Thermostat cycling, standby, post-ventilation and real weather conditions can change consumption. A lower hourly figure does not prove that two heaters deliver the same warmth to the same space. This estimate excludes servicing, installation and delivery.
